Jasna Góra sanctuary
It is the most important shrine to the Virgin Mary and one of the most known in the world. The monastery, with the icon of the Virgin Mary, has been a pilgrimage destination for hundreds of years. Jasna Góra is a treasury of national mementos and valuable works of the Polish culture.
The monastery is the biggest tourist attraction of Częstochowa. Its buildings were the witnesses to the most important events in Polish history. The most significant was the Swedish Deluge. Jasna Góra fulfilled an active role in the history of the Swedish Deluge, as the defence of the monastery stands as turning point of events. Up till now we can admire the tremendous walls of the cloister that used to be a significant fortress. Sumptuously decorated gates, a majestic tower with a viewing terrace, chapels and museums that delight every pilgrim.
